We Hunt For:
Alaskan Size Hunting
We hunt multiple Game Management Units throughout the state depending on game being sought. All of our hunts are 1 Hunter to 1 Guide other than some of our black bear hunts. The majority of our bear hunts, other than
Hunter’s gear except hip boots, weapon & sleeping bag should easily fit into the recommended daypack and 2 small duffel bags (no large duffel bags, especially wheeled bags. 2 small bags are easier to get in the Supercub). Recommend waterproof or dry bag.
Rifle: 30 caliber or larger recommended for moose, brown bear, grizzly, black bear, and caribou hunts. Please bring a gun you shoot well and do not feel you have to have a cannon. I’d rather you have 1 well placed shot than using a gun you are unfamiliar with or are afraid of the recoil. I will provide a soft case for flying.
Ammo: 2 boxes- Nosler Partition, Barnes-X type, Trophy Boded Bear Claw, etc. No Soft Points or Spiral Points.
Sleeping Bag: All hunters should have a “mummy type” synthetic sleeping bag good to at least 0o F that is in a compression stuff sack (very important).
Camera & Binoculars: Recommend compact small Digital that is at least water-resistant and good binos.
Frameless Day Pack: also water bottles and straps to carry layers of clothing and hip boots, camera, rain gear, lunch, etc.
Personal Items: (Toilet Kit, Small Towel, Medication, etc…) all spring brown bear hunters should bring sunglasses and sunscreen.
Ankle-Fit Hip Boots: We recommend LaCrosse, hunters will need these boots.
Snowshoe Spring Bear Hunters: You should have a good Pac-Style boot with replacement liners or a high fitting water proof boot. They will get wet and it’s recommended to have a pair of liners to rotate. Schnee’s and Whites make a good boot and whatever boot you go with make sure it fits snug as snowshoeing requires a lot of movement. I have snowshoes for all hunters.
Raingear: You will need both pants and coat. We recommend Sitka Gear, Kool Dri, or lightweight Helly Hanson.
Clothing: For weather between 0 and 70 degrees F. No orange blaze patterns. The best clothing I have personally used is Sitka Gear. I wear an uninsulated pant and use good Polypropolene long underwear. To include:
Cold weather gloves 1-2 pair
Head Sock or Neck Gator
Hunting boots (10” warm waterproof/Recommend Kennetrek or Danner)
Stocking hat (polyester or pile) 1
Pants (polyester or fleece) 2 pairs-Sitka or Cabela's
Shirts (polyester or fleece) 2
Underpants & Undershirts (silk or polyester) 4 pairs
Socks (Poly & wool blend) 4 pairs/each
Long underwear (silk, polyester or fleece) 1 pair
Camp slippers (1 pair)
Hunting Coat & Pants (warm & quiet) 1 each
Vest (down or fleece) 1
If you have clothes that you feel work good for you, by all means use them. It is important to dress in layers. When we are hiking or snowshoeing we layer down. When we are glassing or sitting you need to layer up (We spend a lot of time glassing and sitting still). Having a good pair of rain pants that you can put on without removing your boots is imperative! Even when it’s not raining most of
IMPORTANT! We have a weight limit of 65 lbs. for one hunter’s gear. Anything extra will cause a significant increase in the cost of any charter flights you may have. We suggest bringing only one gun and leaving hard cases in town. You can pick it up when you return from camp. I have soft cases for you to use. If you need more information on gear please feel free to call.
